VoIP trunks

A VoIP trunk gateway is an interface that facilitates the use of plain old telephone service (POTS) equipment, such as conventional phone sets and fax machines, with a voice over IP (VoIP) network.

Commercially manufactured VoIP trunk gateways take the form of self-contained units (boxes) or circuit cards. The number of ports for POTS devices varies, depending on the intended application (small business, medium-sized business, or enterprise). The VoIP trunk gateway connects subscribers to the VoIP network without involving operators or incurring telephone company toll charges. The VoIP service provider establishes its own schedule of rates, if applicable, for local and long-distance calling.

Contact centers

A contact centre, also known as customer interaction center is a central point of any organization from which all customer contacts are managed. Through contact centers, valuable information about company are routed to appropriate people, contacts to be tracked and data to be gathered. It is generally a part of company’s customer relationship management (CRM). Today, customers contact companies by calling, emailing, chatting online, visiting websites, faxing and even instant messaging.

IP-PBX

An IP (Internet Protocol) PBX (Private branch exchange) is a business telephone system designed to deliver voice or video over a data network and interoperate with the normal Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN).

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) gateways can be combined with traditional PBX functionality enabling businesses to use their managed intranet to help reduce long distance expenses, enjoy the benefits of a single network for voice and data and advanced CTI features or be used on a pure IP system which in most cases give greater cost savings, greater mobility, and increased redundancy.

An IP-PBX can exist as a hardware object, or virtually, as a software system.

Unified communications

Unified communications (UC) refers to a trend in business to simplify andintegrate all forms of communications. It is typically a software program and infrastructure improvement. In general, it allows an individual to sendor receive a message on one medium and received on another. For example, one can receive a voice mail message and then read it in their email inbox using a unified communicationsprogram. The communications leveraged by this term can include phone, e-mail, chat, voice mail, and fax. The typical software program unifies thesecommunication mediums so that any activity or message can be easilytransferred to another. A successful implementation can automate andunifies all forms of human and device communications into a common userexperience. Gains in efficiency can result through an optimization ofbusiness processes and enhancing human communications, reducinglatency, managing flows, and eliminating device and media dependencies.
