Access control

13:17:46

An access control system is a system which enables an authority to control access to areas and resources in a given physical facility or computer-based information system. An access control system, within the field of physical security, is generally seen as the second layer in the security of a physical structure.

Access control is, in reality, an everyday phenomenon. A lock on a car door is essentially a form of access control. A PIN on an ATM system at a bank is another means of access control.

Time attendance

time and attendance system enforces accurate labor management can be an arduous task when faced with the sheer number of employee time clocks and timekeeping systems on the market today.

Today's advanced labor management systems are computer based, real-time systems that don't store employee information in a temporary holding place, and are designed to streamline the management of every organization's most important resource -- human capital. These employee time tracking systems may be deployed strictly as server-based systems without the need for any ancillary hardware, or as web-based time and attendance systems without geographic limitation as to their use. Now, most companies will get the best of both worlds by choosing a hybrid time and attendance system using a combination of client-based and web-based employee time keeping software.

Physical security

Data from multiple sources, such as video surveillance cameras or disk storage can be captured and then analyzed and managed for security in managing critical assets.

Physical security focus involves the monitoring of items like blackjack tables in casinos or purchasing traffic flows in supermarket, explained Hill. "IBM is big into this field as well. Video is not all of it but it is part of it.

Intrusion Detection and Prevention

Intrusion detection is the process of monitoring the events occurring in a computer system or network and analyzing them for signs of possible incidents, which are violations or imminent threats of violation of computer security policies, acceptable use policies, or standard security practices. Intrusion prevention is the process of performing intrusion detection and attempting to stop detected possible incidents. Intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDPS)1 are primarily focused on identifying possible incidents, logging information about them, attempting to stop them, and reporting them to security administrators. In addition, organizations use IDPSs for other purposes, such as identifying problems with security policies, documenting existing threats, and deterring individuals from violating security policies. IDPSs have become a necessary addition to the security infrastructure of nearly every organization.

Web filtering

Untangle's free web filter (internet filter) enables administrators to enforce network usage policies and monitor user behavior. Powerful features such as Zero client installation and category block lists make it easier for administrators to:

  • Protect the network from malware on the web
  • Block time-wasting sites like MySpace
  • Conserve bandwidth by blocking audio/video downloads
